Don't forget the flowers: Friendship Day set Sept. 19

Monday, August 27, 2012

Friendship Day 2012 is set for Wednesday, Sept. 19. The annual event is intended to spread friendship, goodwill and community spirit among Putnam County citizens.

Approximately 4,000 roses will be given away by the dozens with the one stipulation that those who receive the roses keep only one for themselves to enjoy and give the 11 other roses to 11 other people.

The sponsors of this event are requesting canned or non-perishable food items when picking up the roses. All collected goods will go to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.

"This is just one more way that we can show goodwill toward our neighbors," said Chamber Executive Director Tammy Amor.

Anyone unable to bring a canned good may still pick up a dozen roses to pass out to friends, relatives, co-workers or even total strangers.

Sponsors include Eitel's Flowers & Gifts, The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Asbury Towers Retirement Community, Bittles & Hurt/Hopkins-Rector Funeral Homes, First National Bank, Ivy Tech Community College, Metronet Inc., PNC Bank, Teachers Credit Union, and University Lending.

The roses will be available at each of the sponsor locations starting at 8 a.m. on Sept. 19.

Each year the roses go faster, so the sponsors want to remind and advise everyone to come as early as they can, before the roses are all gone.
