DANVILLE -- The Greencastle boys' cross country team competed at Danville's Hokum Karem, a relay race that features four pairs of runners per team that run three, one-mile loops.

The GHS boys finished fourth overall with a team time of 1:39.23.

The duo of Tyler Hudson and Taylor Secrest finished seventh with a time of 31:23. The team of Elijah Brattain and Levi Lewis finished 27th with a time of 33:36, with Matthew White and Jacob Lewis placing 33rd with a time of 34:26. Cory Lyons and Nathan Grezsiek were Greencastle's fourth pairing, posting a time of 37:29.

GHS head coach Art Dwigans noted his team was eighth on the second round of exchanges, but showed their determination and began moving through the field. But he said it was too little too late, but he was pleased with the team's performance.

"I really hope this race showed the boys the ability they have to compete with the top ranked teams and gives them confidence in what they are doing," Dwigans said. "I truely believe this team is poised to be special, if they compete with the desire and drive they showed in the later section of the race.

"We have talked about where we can be at the end of the year if we put the work in now, and I belive we took a big step in that direction today," he added.

South Putnam scored a 10th place finish with a time of 1:43.37, while North Putnam finished 20th with a time of 2:06.47. No individual times were submitted for South Putnam and North Putnam at press time.
