Two people were charged with theft and lodged in the Putnam County Jail Wednesday afternoon after an incident at American Rental, 1360 Indianapolis Rd.

Arrested at their 330 Greenwood Ave. apartment at 3:20 p.m. were Chelsea R. Henderson, 19, and Dillon J. Pate, 21.

Officer Darrel Bunten's report indicated the couple were in possession of an iPhone belonging to David Mason Jr., Greencastle.

About an hour earlier, the couple had been at the store when Mason was reportedly looking for his phone. A child had reportedly left the phone on a couch, but when Mason went to get it, the phone was gone.

Police said Mason twice asked the couple if they had the phone or had seen the phone and they said no. The missing iPhone was then traced to the apartment building in the old hospital where the suspects reside.

At 11:32 a.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Bloomington Street, 75 feet north of Primrose Lane.

Capt. Mike Hanlon reported that Erin Verplaetse, 24, Greencastle, was northbound, driving a 2009 Ford Escape, when she stopped to turn left into Res-Care.

Following behind her in a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander, Karista Gephart Brown, 22, Greencastle, said she looked down at a sheet of paper with directions listed and did not realize the Verplaetse vehicle had stopped.

The resulting rear-end collision yielded an estimated $2,500-$5,000 damage.

Brown was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

One additional citation was reported by city officers.

-- At 12:02 a.m. Sunday, Jason Snider, 37, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Eric Vaughan on South Jackson Street for operating without motorcycle endorsement.
