Margaret Applegate Crosby of Roachdale passed away on Sept. 4, 2012 in Greencastle.

Burial will be at the Roachdale Cemetery with Pastor Alan Small officiating at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. Friends and family are invited to the home of Joseph and Susan Crosby, following the burial, for refreshments.

Mrs. Crosby was born Nov. 15, 1908 to Elmer Elsworth and Adella Ann Whisler Applegate in Cicero. She was the eighth child of their family of five girls and five boys.

A graduate of Cicero High School, she attended Earlham College before accepting employment in the accounting department of H. P. Wasson and Co. of Indianapolis.

On Feb. 5, 1942, Margaret married Byron Crosby and moved to his hometown of Roachdale. There she dedicated her life to their two children, Joseph and Rebecca, and to community service.

Margaret was a member of the Roachdale Christian Church, Eastern Star and an active supporter of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, DeMolay, Job's Daughters and Band Boosters. She served in leadership positions in Delta Theta Tau, PTA and her much-treasured Philomath Club.

Mrs. Crosby was preceded in death by her husband Byron, who passed away in 1967.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Ann Hartberg, and husband W. Keith Hartberg of Waco, Texas; her son, Joseph Ellsworth Crosby, and wife Susan Ray Crosby of Roachdale; grandsons Todd Allen Crosby of San Francisco, Thomas Byron Crosby and wife Amber of Zionsville and Adam Keith Hartberg and wife Robin of Lorena, Texas; granddaughters Gretchen Hartberg Mackenzie and husband Alfred of Waco, Texas, and Joanna Hartberg Meek and husband Isaac of Hopkinton, Mass.; great-grandchildren Katherine Ann and James Andrew Mackenzie, Emma Katherine Margaret and Matthew Warren Meek, and Caroline Noel and Hunter Keith Hartberg and Alexander Joseph and Allison Grace Crosby.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial be made to the Children's Department of the Roachdale Library in care of Tri -County Bank and Trust, Box 218, 18 E. Washington St., Roachdale, IN 46172.

Servies and Morgan Funeral Home at Roachdale is assisting the family with the arrangements.
