South Putnam, Cloverdale runners compete at Clay City Invitational

CLAY CITY -- South Putnam and Cloverdale's cross country teams traveled to Clay City Thursday. South Putnam won the boys' meet with a score of 48, while Cloverdale finished seventh with a score of 167. The Eagles also won the girls' meet with a score of 37, with the Clovers finishing second with a score of 50.

South Putnam's Hunter Barr placed first with a time of 18:27, with teammate Berndt Freeman finishing third with a time of 18:43. Matt Lund was eighth with a time of 19:42, while Matt Allen was 16th in a time of 20:22.

Land Franklin was 20th overall with a time of 20:47, while Colten Bunten placing 27th with a time of 21:20. Tyler Nield rounded out the Eagle runners placing 30th with a time of 21:40.

Cloverdale was led by Chris Worthington's 24th place finish in a time of 20:57. Nick Blundell finished 31st with a time of 21:53, while Thomas Suarez finishing 32nd in a time of 21:58. Ethan Maners placed 36th with a time of 22:15 and Cristain LaFary finishing 44th in a time of 24:32.

In the girls' race, Cloverdale's Claudia Monnett finished second with a time of 22:12, while teammate Bailey Stevens finished sixth in a time of 23:44. Amillia Nally was 12th in a time of 25:36, with Laura Washington finishing 24th in a time of 29:31. Ashlee Nees placed 29th in a time of 31:06.

Madie Egold led the South Putnam squad with a seventh place finish with a time of 24:09, while Julianna Delano placed 10th in a time of 24:34.

Jessica Jones finished 13th in a time of 26:21, with Michaela Scales placing 14th with a time of 26:30. Mallory Glaze finished 15th with a time of 26:31, with Angel Nield placing 16th in a time of 26:38 and Hannah Jones placing 17th with a time of 26:49.

"Both teams did a great job in the heat," South Putnam head coach Brandon Welti said. "They started out conservative and made a lot of great moves late in the race to put us in position to win. They raced really well."

South Putnam and Cloverdale will compete at the Jon Mitchell Invite at Cascade High School Saturday at 9 a.m.
