Greencastle girls' golf falls to Northview in three-way match

Greencastle's girls' golf program celebrated senior night at Windy Hill Country Club Thursday night by hosting Northview and Crawfordsville in a three-way match.

Sole senior Kenzie St. Marie paced the Tiger Cubs with a 47, but a red hot Knights squad took the match with a score 196 to the hosts 216 and the Athenians' 237.

Northview's Karlie Atkinson took medalist honors with a 45 on the day, followed by rounds of 49 from Megan Heaton, 50 from Keirsten Mikesell and 52 by Makenzie Brown.

After St. Marie's 47, Lauren Bridgewater carded a 49, Liz Johnson shot a 59 and Lokysa Scheuermann added a 61.

Crawfordsville was led by Regina Go's 50, followed by rounds of 57 from Madeline Mitton, 63 from Amy Wise and 67 by Ariel Sledge.

Greencastle head coach Brad Kingma said that the squad had a solid night and sent St. Marie off with a good final round.

"Kenzie played well tonight. She had one hole where she had a bad shot and the hole got away from her but she did better towards the end. She had a birdie later and tied her best round out here," Kingma said.

"Liz didn't have a great round. Lauren started off slow but she recovered to have a great round for her best round out here as well.

"We knew coming in Northview had a strong squad and that we would have needed a very good night to stay with them but they had a couple of good scores out here tonight as well," Kingma added.

Greencastle now turns its attention to Saturday and the WCC match. Kingma said that the squad had a chance to be right in the thick of the pack.

"Lauren is playing very well. Kenzie has had ups and downs, so this was a good round to get in before Saturday. Hopefully she learned some things tonight and carries some confidence into Saturday," Kingma said.

"The WCC match is going to be very competitive. There are a lot of teams that are very close to each other and everyone has a chance on Saturday."
