Bad weather moves games until today

Saturday, September 8, 2012

Severe weather, including dangerous lightning, slammed Putnam County Friday night resulting in the postponement of two football games.

With 11:09 left in the second quarter, Turkey Run was leading the host Clovers 8-6 before the word came down that the game was being halted for lightning.

After Turkey Run scored on a long drive, Cloverdale got on the board when Andrew Howard blazed a trail 45 yards for a touchdown.

In a rematch of last year's sectional final, South Putnam and North Putnam's game was called with 10:30 remaining with the game knotted at 7-all.

The Eagles were first to score, marching down the field on its first possession and taking advantage of a North Putnam penalty. Following a costly Cougar penalty, South Putnam's Lucas Lorian ripped through the defense for a 33-yard scoring strike.

The Cougars returned the favor just before the opening quarter ended when Trevor Smith hooked up with Kaleb Belcher for a nine-yard touchdown to tied the game at 7-all.

Cloverdale's game will resume at 2 p.m. tomorrow, while the Eagles will host the Cougars at 7 p.m.
