Gladah Mead Childs, age 97, Jeffersonville, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.
She was born and raised in Jeffersonville and spent 40 years living in Greencastle, where she raised both of her children and she and her husband owned The Farmer's Supply, a John Deere farm equipment and Plymouth/Desoto dealership.
At the time of her passing Gladah was living near her son and daughter-in-law, Mead and Carol Childs in Yorktown, Va.
Gladah was a member of Wall Street United Methodist Church where she was baptized, attended Sunday School as a child and was married to her husband John Allen Childs in 1938.
She is survived by her daughter Ann Lynn Beatty and husband Jim; son Mead Childs and wife Carol; five grandchildren, Kimberly Allard and husband Dylan, Lynn Pearson and husband Mark, Susannah Tucker and husband Peter, Laura Childs and Alex Childs; and 10 Great-grandchildren.
Gladah was preceded in death in 1979 by her husband of 41 years, John Allen Childs, parents Dr. Arthur and Pearl Mead and sister Marjorie Mead Osborne.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Coots Funeral Home, 120 W. Maple St., Jeffersonville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Wall Street United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
