Man flees deputies, damages two vehicles
After running from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department twice on Tuesday evening, a Greencastle man who was wanted on a felony warrant in Hendricks County was arrested in Cloverdale on Friday evening.
Cletus Warren was originally wanted on a warrant form Hendricks County for failure to report for work release. However, after a chase that occurred in Cloverdale at Stardust Rd. and C.R. 1000 S., Warren is now being charged with much more.
"We've been chasing this guy all week," said investigating officer and Putnam County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Jon Chadd. "We got information as to his location and we then set up on him at the residence he was at."
When Warren left the residence, deputies attempted to make a routine traffic stop on him. Rather than stopping, Warren sped up his vehicle, which resulted in hitting one Sheriff's Department deputy head-on.
"As he approached our location, units attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle," Chadd explained. "He sped up his vehicle and aimed it directly head-on into a county vehicle. He then went off the roadway where he struck another county vehicle."
After Warren struck the second vehicle, he then exited his vehicle through the driver's side door and moved into the bed of the green Chevrolet pickup truck that was still in motion. The truck finally came to a halt after the passenger, who was not charged, forced the truck into neutral and it rolled to a stop.
"He exited the vehicle through the drivers side into the bed of the pickup and continued to resist and ignore our verbal commands and aggressively resisted us," Chadd added. "After a (physical) struggle the subject was taken into custody."
Preliminary charges for Warren include attempted murder, operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.
Only one officer had to be taken to the Putnam County Hospital. He was checked, treated and released the same evening.
Damages are estimated at $10,000-$15,000.
Assisting the investigation were deputies Josh Boller, Phillip Troyer, Terry Smith, Sgt. Charlie Hallam of the Cloverdale Police Department, the Indiana State Police and Operation Life.
