The suspect, Thomas Badgley, 21, was taken into custody without incident, Greencastle Police reported.

After interviewing witnesses at the scene, investigators determined that the parents, Tommie and Debbie Badgley, had been contacted due to a medical issue with their son, Thomas Badgley.

Once the parents arrived at their son's Crown Street residence, a physical altercation reportedly took place between Tommie Badgley and Thomas Badgley, which resulted in the son allegedly stabbing the father.

Thomas Badgley is currently in custody at the Putnam County Jail. He was booked in for murder at 12:24 a.m. Thursday.

Suspect Thomas Badgley is taken into custody without incident on Wednesday evening by Putnam County Sheriff Steve Fenwick (left) and Greencastle Police Department Assistant Police Chief Brian Hopkins as the suspect in the fatal stabbing of his father.

Formal charges are pending with the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office. Thomas Badgley's arraignment has tentatively been set for 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Authorities are releasing no further details in the incident at this time, Greencastle Chief Tom Sutherlin said.

Investigating agencies are the Greencastle Police Department and the Indiana State Police. Putnam County Sheriff's Department officers were also on the scene.
