Missionary to visit Gobin Sept. 20

Missionary Berit Skaare will speak at the United Methodist Unit meeting at Gobin United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20.

Berit is a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Washington, Ind. Christ UMC is the United States address of the Ilula Orphan Program in Ilula, Tanzania, East Africa.

Berit initiated, planned, built and now coordinates and advises the IOP board of directors.

IOP has more than 17 programs working to alleviate poverty, hunger and disease, sharing ideology with United Nations 8 Millenim Goals.

During the past 14 years, more than 1,500 orphans have received education, an HIV/AIDS testing and counseling program has been established, the Lord's Hill High School was completed and an orphan center graces the landscape.

In addition there is a guest house, trade house, welding shop, leather works, sewing center and one acre has grown into over 600 acres with a viable farming operation.

Everyone, whether a member or not, is invited to attend the meeting. It promises to be an interesting, educational and inspirational program.
