Saturday, September 15, 2012

Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled Dine with a Doc to take place on the fourth Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon at First National Bank.

Dine with a Doc is a free program that welcomes the local senior public to hear the doctor of the month speak about an educational topic while having lunch. This program is a community effort of a doctor, a lunch sponsor, area businesses and a local church coming together to serve the community seniors.

The speaker for this month is John Savage M.D. Dr. Savage graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in Bloomington. He completed his residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie and is board certified in Family Practice.

Dr. Savage and his wife Marianne have two children. His interests include bicycling sports, mathematics and mechanical repairs. Dr. Savage was an engineer by trade before returning to school to study medicine.

Dr. Savage's life saving presentation will cover the topic of strokes and their causes, signs and symptoms, risk factors, treatments and more.

A stroke is a medical emergency. In the United States, strokes are the fourth leading cause of death, killing more than 133,000 people each year. It is the leading cause of serious, long-term adult disability.

Few people in the United States know the warning signs of strokes. Immediate treatment can save lives and reduce disability. A question and answer period will follow this discussion.

A complimentary brunch will be courtesy of Mill Pond. Mill Pond Health Campus offers residents the ability to get involved in community events and activities.

There will be an opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the program. There will also be various health care providers to share information about their services and door prizes for participants to win.

First National Bank is located at 1128 Indianapolis Rd. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (877) 223-6109.
