Dautry F. 'Doc' Cabe

Dautry F. "Doc" Cabe, age 72, of Greencastle, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Putnam County Hospital.

Born Oct. 28, 1939 in Sylva, N.C., he was the son of Ottis Fred and Mary Etta (Deitz) Cabe.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962.

On Nov. 30, 1963 he married Rita M. (DeNino) Cabe, and she survives.

Doc had been a supervisor with Inland Container for 23 years, retiring in 1998.

Survivors include his wife; children Margaret (Mike) Burt of Terre Haute, Sam (Lisa) Cabe of Danville, Brian (Marilee) Cabe of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Joetta (Jack) Scanland of Greencastle; two brothers, Dempsey Cabe of Troy, MI and Carlin (Alice) Cabe of Sylva, N.C.; a sister, Lillian (Roy) Morris of Brevard, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Derek McMillan, Skylar Long, Isaac Green, Jacob Cabe, Leesa Vasilon, Heather Cabe, Dakota Cabe, Michael Cabe, Codey Cabe, Zachary Cabe, Hope Scanland and Trey Scanland; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Gaither; and two brothers, Marvin and Winston Cabe.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Bobby Hopper officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5-8 pm. at the funeral home.
