After 13-and-a-half-years of leading the Greencastle Banner Graphic as publisher, Randy List has taken on some new challenges.

List has been transferred to lead several newspapers in western Iowa. He began his new duties this week.

While List will remain the publisher and part owner of all three Indiana properties, the Greencastle Banner Graphic, Greene County Daily World (Linton/Bloomfield), and The Brazil Times, Chris Pruett has been promoted to senior general manager. He will oversee the day-to-day activities of all three properties.

Daryl Taylor will continue as general manager at the Banner Graphic, and Lynne Llewellyn will remain as general manager of The Times.

"Since I will be living in Iowa it was necessary to have someone here in Indiana that I could rely on to handle the day-to-day issues of running the newspapers," List said. "I'm very confident in Chris as that leader and know that Daryl and Lynne will continue to strive to give our readers all the news happening in their communities."

Pruett said he's looking forward to his new role.

"I appreciate Randy's confidence and allowing me the opportunity to help manage the other two Indiana properties," Pruett said. "Lynne and Daryl have a lot of experience at their papers, and do a good job."

Pruett was named general manager of the GCDW and The Shopper when Rust Communications purchased the GCDW in January 2003 and The Shopper in March 2003. He's also the editor of the GCDW.

"One of the reasons I accepted the promotion is because of the great staff I have in Linton. Without their help there's no way I'd be able to take on these new responsibilities," Pruett stressed.

Pruett came to Greene County in 1983 to serve as sports editor of the former Linton Daily Citizen. He also served as editor during a portion of that time. He moved on to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star in July 1990 and was assistant sports editor until moving back to Greene County in February 1998, when the LDC was purchased by Thomson Newspapers, the same company that owned the Terre Haute paper at the time.

He has served as editor and later general manager since that time.

Pruett and his wife Debbie have been married for 27-and-a-half years and they have one daughter, Rachael, a graduate student at Ball State University.

List came to Greencastle in February 1999 as publisher when Rust Communications purchased the Banner Graphic, and he took over at The Brazil Times when it was purchased by Rust in 2001. Rust purchased the GCDW in January 2003.

In 2010 he was promoted to Regional Vice President of Rust Communications, and will oversee 11 newspapers and two shoppers in Iowa, one in Nebraska, one in Idaho in addition to his three Indiana properties.

List and his family will relocate to Le Mars, Iowa.

List started his career for his hometown paper in Yankton, S.D., in 1974 as a proofreader in the advertising department.

"I've also held various positions over my career in South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and California before moving to the Journal-Review in Crawfordsville and then Greencastle," List explained.

Together, List and his wife Kathleen have four children, daughter Emilie, her husband Mike and granddaughter Stella live in Fishers, his son Phil is a lawyer in Indianapolis, daughter Katie and son Kevin live at home and attend Greencastle schools. Kathleen is administrative coordinator for libraries at DePauw University.

"It has been a great 13 years living and working in Greencastle, Brazil and Greene County. I'm very proud of my papers and the staff that is dedicated to providing our communities with the news that only we can provide," List stressed.

"I will miss all the people that work for me and our many friends in the community."

Taylor, who was born and raised in Greencastle, has been at the Banner Graphic for 26 years, starting on April 14, 1986 in the graphic arts department and pressroom.

He was promoted to pressroom/prepress foreman in April 1999, and production manager in 2002. He was named general manager in February 2005.

Taylor and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 29 years and have three daughters, Ashton (Query), Callan and Emma. They have one granddaughter, Reese (Query).

"Randy's knowledge of the newspaper business and his firm leadership style will always hold a special place in my memory of him," Taylor said. "Randy has brought many changes to the paper from mail delivery to website paywalls ... many that were seen as industry firsts and have become models for others to follow."
