County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

* At 11:50 a.m. Steve Michael Weldon, 27, Coatesville, was arrested for the sale of methamphetamine, possession of precursors and parole violation.

* At 12:40 p.m. Monte B. Mills, 41, Indianapolis, was charged with operating while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement and failure to appear.

Sheriff's Department

On Monday, Oct. 1 at 5:25 p.m. Joshua D. Gross, 32, Crawfordsville, was stopped southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2004 Saturn Ion waiting for another vehicle to turn west onto County Road 350 North. Justin L. Scobee, 17, Roachdale, was also southbound in a 2002 Ford F150.

Scobee did not see Gross's vehicle in time. He applied his brakes, but they locked up, causing an uncontrolled skid. Scobee's truck collided with the rear of Gross's vehicle.

Damage was listed at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Four recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police.

-- At 4:30 p.m. Monday, the entrance to the Walmart store parking lot was the scene of a two-car mishap as Sara Waggoner, 43, Crawfordsville, was leaving the lot in a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, turning left onto the southern extension of Calbert Way.

As she was eastbound in the lot, a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Coden Hibler, 22, Greencastle, came around the corner and slid into the Waggoner car.

Officer Darrel Bunten estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 6:39 p.m. Saturday, Capt. Charles Inman investigated an accident involving a parked vehicle on South Jackson Street, 150 feet north of Walnut Street.

Nathen Romandine, 16, Greencastle, was southbound on Jackson Street, driving a 2008 Mazda, when he was reportedly distracted by his cell phone ringing. He told police he took his eyes off the roadway to retrieve the phone from the center console and his vehicle ran into the rear of a parked and unattended 2011 Lincoln Navigator, owned by Jamey Landry, Greencastle.

Total damage, including a sidewalk electrical outlet owned by the City of Greencastle, was listed at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 4:06 p.m. Sept. 27, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Indiana Street, just north of Washington Street.

Officer Bunten reported that Donald McLain, 68, Cloverdale, was attempting to back a 2000 Ford F-350 truck from a parking space, when he struck a southbound 2002 Nissan Ultima, driven by Vernon Herriott, 70, Greencastle, that McLain said had moved in his blind spot.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

McLain was ticketed for having no insurance.

-- At 11:55 a.m. Sept. 27, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road near Veterans Highway.

Terri Haussin, 53, Greencastle, was stopped in traffic in a 2008 Honda Odyssey when her vehicle was struck by a 2008 Honda Civic, driven by Amanda Mounts, 21, Greencastle, who was trying to switch lanes to exit onto Veterans Highway.

Officer Bunten listed total damage at $5,000-$10,000.
