Nichols eyes seat on SP board

Angie Nichols is a candidate for the Washington Township seat on the South Putnam School Board.

Nichols lives in Reelsville with her husband Greg and two daughter, Aubrey and Ally, both students at South Putnam.

Her employment had been with Reelsville Elementary School as the treasurer/administrative assistant until the school's recent consolidation with Central Elementary. She is currently employed with ETA International in Greencastle.

"During my years at Reelsville I developed relationships with families, students and staff that are very important to me." Nichols said. "Those relationships are my motivation for candidacy.

"I was approached by several people asking me to consider it and became enthused with the idea."

Nichols has served in a number of community leadership roles, participating in community events and meetings. She is currently on the Reelsville Park Board.

"I believe that a member of the school board has the responsibility of representing those that elect him or her," Nichols said. "The purpose of a board member is to impose accountability, to make the best decisions possible for the greater good of the organization -- not just hold a position.

"If elected, I'll continue to be the person that I am -- someone visible, approachable, dependable, professional and willing to put forth the effort to create a strong and respected school board," she added. "I can't promise that I'm always going to tell someone what they want to hear, but I can promise that my conversations will always be honest and straight forward."

Nichols emphasized her ties to the school corporation, as a South Putnam graduate, parent, former employee and taxpayer.

"As changes in education occur, it's vitally important that those making the decisions consider all perspectives and think objectively -- I'm capable of doing that," Nichols said.

"Thank you for the opportunity. Please exercise your right to vote, it's important at every level."
