Alice Moore wins Johnson Scholarship to Washington and Lee
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Alice Moore of Greencastle has received a Johnson Scholarship to attend Washington and Lee University.
Moore, a 2012 graduate of Greencastle High School, began classes at W&L in September. She was among 41 winners of the prestigious scholarships for 2012.
The Johnson Scholarship program was established in 2007 as a result of an historic $100 million gift to Washington and Lee. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, and candidates are chosen on the basis of exceptional academic and personal promise.
The scholarships provide at least tuition, room and board and allow students to graduate debt-free.
Moore won the scholarship in a competition against about 200 other finalists who participated in on-campus interviews last spring.
While at GHS, Moore was named an Indiana Academic All-Star and salutatorian of her senior class.
She is the daughter of Harriet and Kevin Moore.
The Johnson Scholarship is part of a program that includes a lecture and symposia series on topics in leadership, supports two professorships and awards grants to about 30 students to conduct off-campus research during the summer between their junior and senior years.
