The North Putnam volleyball team defeated South Vermillion in three sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22.
Madi Asbell scored 19 points for the Cougars, with Bethany Wiatt adding 15 points.
Head coach Jill Schreiber said Wiatt played well in the back row and commented how Asbell was able to play out of a recent slump.
"She (Asbell) played well and was able to hit the ball tonight and really came out of her slump she was in. She had an excellent game," Schreiber said.
Schreiber said her team played well on the night and tried some offensive plays they have been working on.
"We had some players playing different roles tonight (Tuesday) and they handled the chance very well," Schreiber said. "They were a team and it's nice to see them playing well together before sectional.
"This was a great win to get heading into sectional."
The North Putnam junior varsity also won in three sets.
