Mary Ruth Shamel, 84, formerly of Brazil, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 following a lengthy illness.

She was born on June 20, 1928 in Brazil to Otto C. Hanneman and Mary R. Jones Hanneman.

Mrs. Shamel was a graduate of Greencastle High School and retired from General Telephone Company where she served as a manager. She had worked in the Greencastle branch prior to her retirement from the Terre Haute branch.

In her retirement years she was an avid bingo player and loved making trips to Las Vegas with her beloved sister.

Surviving are her sister, Vi Brock of Daytona, Fla.; three daughters, Marcia Frost and husband Bill of Knoxville, Tenn., Brenda Gooch and husband Steve of Yakima, Wash. and Becky Hughes and husband Mark of Brazil; son James Mackey and wife Diane of Brazil; stepdaughter Carol of Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her parents; husband L. Richard Shamel; brother Robert Hanneman; two stepsons, James Shamel and Richard Shamel; and her first husband, James Mackey preceded her in death.
