Putnam County Giving Tree now accepting applications

Monday, October 29, 2012

Putnam County Giving Tree is under way in its efforts to reach everyone in need this holiday season. Forms have been distributed to the Putnam County schools, Johnson-Nichols Clinic, Care Net Pregnancy Center, Family Support Services, and Putnam County Head Start.

Putnam County Giving Tree began in collaboration with the Angel Tree Program and several groups from around the county, including all four school systems and local organizations.

The organizations are working together to streamline the list of families in need and the process of gift giving into one centralized location, which keeps information about the children who need help during the holiday season. The database includes the child's age, gender, sizes, favorite color, needs and a "wish list."

Purpose of this program is to help decrease the potential for duplication and ensure that every child within a family receives needed clothes and wishes. The group's mission is to coordinate community efforts to support children who would normally do without during the holiday season

In 2011, through the generous support of the community, the program was able to help more than 680 children in Putnam County. Those who would like to provide gifts for a child or children this holiday season may call 720-1818 or email putnamcountygivingtree@live.com
