Virginia H. Callender

Virginia H. Callender, age 91, of Greencastle, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012.

Born Nov. 16, 1920 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of James J. and Blanche (Sweet) Harrold.

She married Hiram Callender in 1941, and he preceded her in death Nov. 22, 2003.

She was a 1938 graduate of Greencastle High School and a graduate of Indiana Central Business College.

She was employed at DePauw University as a secretary in the Education Department for 32 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and Ladies Guild, and the DePauw Retirees Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents and two brothers, Fred and Denis Harrold.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jerri Chavis and husband, Kenneth of Britton, Mich., and Joan Huber and husband, John of Greencastle; a son, John Callender and wife, Judy of Greencastle; a brother, Tom Harrold of Fithian, lll.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Greencastle, with Fr. Darvin Winters officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the American Heart Assn., the Alzheimer's Assn. or the Humane Society of Putnam County.
