Homelessness Awareness Week

Tuesday, November 13, 2012
Designating the week of Nov. 10-18 as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray signs a proclamation to that effect at City Hall. Present for the signing are Beyond Homeless Inc. board members Bill Wieland, Executive Director Joel Rekas, Bob Sedlack, Alan Barber and Heather Poynter. Mayor Murray urged every citizen to donate their time and talents in support of local programs that provide hunger relief, emergency shelter, housing and social services that strengthen families. She also asked the community to recommit itself to ending the tragedy of hunger and homelessness for more than 15 percent of Greencastle residents. Beyond Homeless is a new program dedicated to the mission of providing shelter and related services to households experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty. Not present for the photo were board members, Bob Jedele, Beth Tharp, Ann Newton, Ruth Ralph, Jerry Lewis and David English. (BannerGraphic/LAUREN BOUCHER )

  • It would be nice to see some of the leaders/directors of food pantries on the board. We are the ones who see the hungry of Putnam County as well as giving life sustaining food to the homeless. Judy Miller, diredtor of the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.
