Cloverdale marshal resigns after months of disagreement

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

CLOVERDALE -- In an unexpected turn of events, Cloverdale Town Marshal Jon Chadd resigned Friday afternoon after nearly three years.

The resignation, effective immediately, came after months of disagreement with the current Cloverdale Town Council regarding financing and the police department.

"I was no longer going to risk something for something that wasn't worth it," said Chadd. "There were differences of philosophy with the new board, including budget issues and things the police department needed that they refused to purchase."

The decision for Chadd was not an easy one, but after months of not making any progress with the council and what he termed "misappropriated funding" for the police department, Chadd felt it was time to step away.

"It came down to a point where it was just not worth it. The bottom line of it is, is the lying and what I feel like is major misappropriation of funds," explained Chadd. "Also, not being able to outfit or conduct the police department like I thought it should be done. So, I decided that my life and my time are worth more."

Chadd plans to continue to focus his efforts on his full-time job as a sergeant at the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
