Annual 'Light the Park' event on tap Dec. 1 at Robe-Ann

Mr. King James, a new attraction for Big Bounce Fun House Rentals, Greencastle, will visit Robe-Ann Park Dec. 1 for the "Light the Park" event.

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to come to Robe-Ann Park Saturday, Dec. 1 for its "Light the Park!" event to celebrate the season and help grow its holiday light display.

Holiday music is scheduled for 1-2 p.m. at the Bob Flanigan Bandshell, followed at 2 p.m. by a live nativity.

At 3 p.m., youngsters can welcome Santa and his newest camel, Mr. King James. Santa will visit with youngsters until he departs to the north at 4 p.m. Photos can be purchased from a photographer during Santa's visit.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be available for purchase, and a donation jar will be set up, all to help "Light the Park."

"Light the Park!" is the Greencastle Parks Department's annual holiday fundraiser, designed to help grow the display of lights in the park during the holiday season.

In 2009 one large tree was lighted with the help of Santa and his reindeer Misfit. The Park Department has continued to add a little more to the display each year with a goal sometime soon to "Light the Park" entirely.

Sponsors and partners this year include Big Bounce Fun House Rentals, the Inn at DePauw, Don's Garage, Humphreys' Outdoor Power, Wilson's Photography and Formal Wear, Digital Sounds DJ and New Life Baptist Church.

Anyone who would like to participate or donate early may call the park office at 653-3395.
