ROACHDALE -- The Roachdale Elementary School recently received $350 worth of new containers for its recycling program thanks to a grant from the West Central Solid Waste District.

"Our goal is to reduce the amount of garbage that ends up in landfills and also save on our monthly garbage removal costs," Roachdale Principal Scott Spencer said. "We used this grant opportunity to expand our existing recycling program to purchase bins for locations in the school that previously did not have them."

WCSWD director Jane Collisi delivered the new bins and they are already in use around the school.

New aluminum can and bottle containers will also help advertise environmental consciousness to students and visitors at Roachdale.

The fifth-grade class is responsible for the daily collection of some of the items the school recycles.
