Another closure at 231 and Anderson St., starting Dec. 17

Saturday, December 8, 2012

The City of Greencastle has received word from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) that it will be putting up signs this coming Monday, giving warning of another U.S. 231 and Anderson Street road closure.

The closure is scheduled for three days, beginning on Monday, Dec. 17 and lasting through the end of the day on Wednesday, Dec.19, INDOT officials have informed the city.

"Weather, as always, can cause a delay, but we will hope Mother Nature will cooperate," Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray said Friday in announcing the planned closure.

The latest road closure was decided upon, Mayor Murray said, so that reinforcement of the pavement can be done at the intersections between the new intersection pavement and the old.

"During those days we will again be allowing two-way traffic on the block of Anderson Street between 231 and Arlington Street," she noted.

"It's indeed our hope that once this repair is complete, we will be ready to open not only U.S. 231 but Anderson Street between Bloomington and Locust, as well," the mayor added.

  • For as long as that has been closed, they could have built a mile of interstate highway, not just one intersection.

  • I'm shocked to see how narrow the new Anderson Street is. With all the trees they destroyed it looked like a 4 lane highway was being built.

  • How well do you think the new brick areas will last once the snowplows are put into use????
