CLOVERDALE -- The Greencastle J.V. boy's basketball team evened its record to 1-1 with a 38-16 defeat of Cloverdale Thursday evening.

The young Tiger Cubs jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, GHS JV coach Doug Hudson said.

Greencastle scored the opening basket and lead 12-5 at the first quarter break. They extended the lead in the second and third stanzas, outscoring the Clovers 24-8 in the middle quarters.

Greencastle tried many different player combinations while successfully burning time off of the clock in fourth, Hudson said.

All eight GHS players saw significant playing time and all scored at least one basket in the contest.

Zach Wilkerson and Luke Brotherton led all scorers with nine points each.

Hudson said Brotherton and John Newgent played outstanding floor games, with Brotherton accumulating four defensive deflections and 11 post-feeds.

Newgent led the team with eight steals on the night. He added four assists and four points.

The Tiger Cubs tipped 17 passes and also had 22 steals.

Garrett McKensie led Cloverdale with 8 points.

GHS hosts Sullivan in a 6 p.m. contest Saturday at McAnally Center.
