Sheriff's Department

* On Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 12:15 a.m. John R. Calvin, 62, Beech Grove, was westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 600 East in a 2009 Mac CXU Series semi tractor licensed to Quickway Carriers Inc.

Calvin saw a tree hanging over the roadway. He swerved to miss the tree but hit it with the passenger side mirror.

Deputy Mike Downing later located and removed the limb.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* On Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4:03 p.m. Leslie C. Slater, 42, Poland, was westbound on State Road 42, just east of U.S. 231, driving a 1991 Toyota Corolla.

Slater told Deputy Ronnie Campbell she was showing a friend around and was not paying attention to the road.

She said she lost control of the car, going into a ditch and coming to rest on a fence on the north side of the road.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

County Jail

On Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 12:50 p.m. Crystal Baxter, 32, Indianapolis, was booked into the Putnam County Jail for driving with a suspended license.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers ticketed a pair of drivers Tuesday after they were involved in separate fender-benders.

-- At 2:13 p.m. Donna Smith, 68, Cloverdale, was cited by Officer Darrel Bunten for operating a vehicle without proof of financial responsibility. She was ticketed after her 2013 Chevrolet was involved in a minor fender-bender in front of Dollar Tree, 1746 Indianapolis Rd.

-- At 8:19 a.m. Kodi Burchett, 17, Greencastle, was ticketed by Capt. Mike Hanlon for operating a vehicle without proof of financial responsibility. She was cited on Percy Julian Drive after her car was involved in a minor fender-bender near Greencastle High School.

No accident report was available in either situation.
