INDIANAPOLIS -- The South Putnam girls' basketball team lost its fourth straight on Thursday, falling to the Covenant Christian Warriors 44-31.

The Eagles trailed 21-9 after the first quarter, closed the gap to only six in third, but the rally came up short.

Seniors Mattie Varvel and Leanna Masters each scored seven points to lead the Eagles in scoring.

"We got down early and had to fight the rest of the game," SPHS coach Lindsey Blackman said. "(The Warriors) were aggressive on the offensive end, connecting on a high percentage of their shots, which made us have to try different defenses and try to claw our way back in the game."

Masters, the team's leader in scoring and rebounds, was held to only four boards.

"They did a good job of taking away Leanna and limiting Mallory (Cash)'s looks," Blackman said. "(We) couldn't consistently make shots to get over the hump."

Cash played all 32 minutes.

SPHS has a couple weeks off before they host the Eagles Holiday Tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.
