Russellville church to host Christmas memorial service

Saturday, December 15, 2012

On Sunday, Dec. 16 the Russellville Community Church will hold a "Christmas Memorial Service." This is sometimes known as a "Blue Christmas" service-- acknowledging that the holidays are not always bright and jolly for those who have experienced loss.

Russellville began offering this quiet and reflective service some years back when the parish nurses noted that there had been a lot of grief in the community. It has become a time of healing and shared strength.

This year, the service will include a contemporary Christian song by the group Kutless that says, "Even if the healing never comes, You are God. You are good."

Anyone who has experienced loss, whether recent or long ago, is invited to join in at 7 p.m. for the service.

Parish nurse Marcia Jenkins, will have candles for participants to light, and special Christmas ornaments to take home and hang on your tree in remembrance of the one whose seat will be empty at holiday gatherings.

Russellville Community Church is located at 103 W. Third St. in Russellville.
