GHS JV boys top Edgewood, now 5-4

The Greencastle High School boys' JV basketball team continued its winning ways Saturday evening, defeating Edgewood 41-35 in Elletsville.

Scoring first, the young Tiger Cubs trailed only once riding the strong first quarter of Luke Brotherton and second quarter of Carl Basile.

Greencastle lead 9-4 after the first quarter and 17-15 at the break.

Brotherton and Calvin Hughes led the scoring charge in the third, with Brotherton garnering five points and Hughes six, pushing the GHS lead to eight going into the final stanza.

Greencastle was out-scored 10-8 in the final six minutes but came away with the win, its third in a row.

Without scoring in the contest, Jonathon Newgent and Jacob Lewis continued playing strong floor games,

"Especially Lewis," GHS coach Doug Hudson said. "who was credited with one deflection and two blocked shots. Hughes also recorded three deflections, two blocked shots, and two steals. "

Brotherton and Alex Driver of Edgewood tied for game-high honors, both scoring 20 points.

Basile added nine for the Tiger Cubs.

Winners of three-in-a-row, the young Tiger Cubs now stand at 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the WCC.

They host Cascade in the second contest of JV boy's/girls double-header Thursday in McAnally Center with a projected start time of 7:30 p.m.
