CLAYTON -- The Greencastle Tiger Cubs boys' basketball team was on the road Friday night at Cascade. The game was filled with hustle and great plays, but GHS went home with a loss, 56-47.

The Tiger Cubs played well on defense despite giving up 56 points. They forced 22 turnovers on the night.

Tiger Cubs coach Troy Greenlee thought that even though the defense played well the offense could not get in sync.

"I don't think our defense was the issue. I thought our offense was the issue. We allowed (Cascade's) aggressive play to determine how we played offensively," said Greenlee.

The first quarter was a well-played game by both teams. After the frame Greencastle had the edge in the statistical categories but not on the scoreboard.

Greencastle had three turnovers while Cascade had six. The Tiger Cubs also only had two fouls while the Cadets had six.

Aside from the scoring margin, the first quarter was not a prelude to what was going to happen.

In the second and third quarters, Greencastle was outscored 33-18.

In those two quarters the Tiger Cubs had 12 turnovers and Greenlee was not pleased.

"Instead of attacking the basket we allowed them to get into us and we settled for shots or turned the ball over," Greenlee said.

After the first three frames Greencastle trailed 42-25. Instead of quitting because it was behind, Greencastle ended the game on a 22-9 run, nearly taking the lead before eventually falling.

The game was nearly decided on which team played defense the hardest and best, which Greencastle appeared to do, but Cascade's talent and experience won out.

"I don't think defense was the issue I think offensively we allowed their defense to be the difference in the game," Greenlee said. "On offense we need to dictate what the defense does."

The Tiger Cubs are off until Friday when they'll travel to North Putnam at 7:30 p.m.
