Man arrested following DUI wreck with children in car

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

A Bainbridge man was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department on Sunday for driving under the influence of alcohol with two young children in the car with him.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Bobby J. Hood, 46, Bainbridge, was eastbound on County Road 175 North in a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire.

Sgt. Gregg Slover investigated the accident, finding that Hood approached the curve at County Road 150 East at a speed too fast to negotiate the curve. This caused him to lose control and leave the east side of the road.

Slover reported no injuries to Hood or to his minor passengers.

Results of a portable breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .12. A certified test at the Putnam County Jail revealed Hood's blood alcohol content to be .21, approximately 2.5 times the legal limit.

Hood was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 8:15 p.m. on charges of operating while intoxicated and neglect of a dependent.

Damages were estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

  • Obviously he will be charged with DWI, but driving drunk with children in the car should warrant child neglect or endangerment charges, too.
