In what could be a preview of the Sectional 28 championship game in a couple weeks, the Greencastle girls' basketball team hosted Owen Valley on Tuesday.

The Tigers Cubs will hope to flip the script the next time the two teams meet as GHS lost 53-39.

"They've got a good team. That's why they've won 14 or 15 games," Greencastle coach Bradley Key said. "When you shoot a bad percentage (15-56 from the field) and turn the ball over (14), that's a recipe for disaster."

For much of the first half the hosts kept the Lady Patriots' leading scorer, junior Alicia Wilson, from inflicting too much damage.

That changed after the break when Wilson started the half on a personal 8-0 run to help Owen Valley to a 27-13 lead.

Wilson was perfect in the second half, going 5-5 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line.

"Going into the game, we knew she was a really good player," Key said. "We knew she'd be a handful."

As a team, OVHS finished the game 15-of-15 from the line.

GHS battled to the end, closing the deficit to as few as nine, but sending the Patriots to the line to extend the game was a moot point as they never missed.

The Tiger Cubs kept in the game by a pair of sophomores, Taylor Stoltey and Jessica Lenihan.

Stoltey had a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Lenihan had 12 points.

"Taylor Stoltey played a good game," Key said. "(Junior) Shelby Earl knocked down some big threes when we need them. We still believe that we have the right piece of the puzzle to maybe get a share of the conference with Monrovia and Cascade."

Wilson finished 8-11 from the field with 23 points and five steals.

Key said his team has been preparing for this time of year all season and will be ready if they meet again in the sectional final.

"I didn't feel like we were ever totally out of the game (today)," he said. "I would love to have another shot at them in the sectional finals."

GHS has one final regular season game, Friday at Monrovia at 6 p.m., that will determine the West Central Conference championship, before it begins postseason play.
