Walter 'Pappy' Thayer

Walter "Pappy" Thayer, 79, of Bainbridge, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013.

Walter was born on Nov. 6, 1933 to Ole and Beulah Plumber Thayer.

He married Charlotte Baker, and she survives.

He had worked for GM truck and bus in Indianapolis for 35 years, retiring in 1997 as a millwright. He was a member of the Greencastle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Pappy loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and loved fishing and also loved to share this with his children. Pappy loved working with his hands in his workshop and creating different things for his family.

He had so many stories to share with friends and family and enjoyed telling those stories. Most of all it was sharing time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Walter was especially proud of his service to his country by serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors in addition to his wife are his children Skipper and wife Susan and Richard and wife Sue; daughter-in-law Cindy and husband Mike; sister June and husband Don; grandchildren Trish, Lincoln, Grant, Brittany, Crystal and Luke; and great-grandchildren Lilly, Summer, L.J. and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.

Calling will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 in the Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. A funeral service will start at 1 p.m. with Mr. David Earles officiating.
