Greencastle man arrested for failure to register as sex offender
A Greencastle man was arrested recently for failure to register as a sex offender.
Authorities arrested Jason Rivers, 35, after it was discovered he was living at residences on Melrose Avenue and Frazier Street in Greencastle.
Rivers was registered as residing on Walnut Street.
As part of the federally funded Child Sexual Predator Program Grant in Putnam County, detectives from the Putnamville State Police Post were conducting compliance checks in Putnam County to ensure convicted sex offenders were registering as required by law.
During their investigation they determined Rivers, a convicted sex offender, had moved from one residence in Greencastle to another without informing the Greencastle Police Department or Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
Besides his original offense, Rivers has previously run into legal troubles for failure to register. He was arrested in April 2011 for the same offense, later entering a guilty plea.
According to an Indiana Department of Correction offender search, Rivers has twice been convicted of child molesting in Marion County in addition to a pair of Marion County robbery convictions.
Failure to register as a sex offender is a Class D felony, which can carry with it a sentence between six months and three years.
Rivers was incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on $20,000 bond.
