Vernie P. Zeiner, 92, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at his residence.

Born Jan. 13, 1921 in Fillmore, he was the son of William F. and Verna E. (Proctor) Zeiner and was a 1939 graduate of Fillmore High School.

He married Betty J. (Poynter) Zeiner on June 15, 1941, and she survives.

Vernie farmed and operated an excavating business for several years.

He was a member of the Fillmore Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.

He was a past president of the Putnam County Fair Board, having won the award of Top County Fair at the State Fair.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; son LeRoy Zeiner of Fillmore; daughters Sharon (John) Jamieson of Vancouver, Wash., and Denise (Harry) Ludlow of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Troy, Kristie, Tony, Laura, Meagan and Michael; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Fillmore Methodist Church, 221 S. Main St., with Rev. Bryan Palmer Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Fillmore Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St. Greencastle.
