Three confirmed dead in Roachdale house fire

ROACHDALE-- An early morning fire Sunday in Roachdale claimed three people, authorities confirmed.

The fatal fire occurred at 303 E. Railroad St. The Roachdale Fire Department received a call about a house fire around 6a.m. Sunday.

Once firefighters were inside the mobile home they found three victims who died of smoke inhalation according to Roachdale Fire Chief Mike Poole. The victims, a man and two women, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A fire broke out at the 300 block of Railroad Street in Roachdale at 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

Roachdale Town Marshal Mike Mahoy confirmed that the three victims were Robert Wiggins, Charleen Wiggins and Susan Wiggins. The residents of the mobile home were a mother, Charleen, in her 80s and her two adult children.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been an electrical problem around the washer in the mobile home.

Responders to the scene included the Roachdale, Bainbridge, Russellville and Greencastle fire departments and Operation Life and PMH emergency medical services.

Putnam County Sheriff's investigators, the Putnam County Coroner's Office, the Roachdale Police Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal, are conducting the investigation.
