Down to business

Thursday, February 21, 2013
The landscape along the Interstate 70 corridor in Cloverdale has taken on a new look in recent days. The old Holiday Inn motel building, a fixture at the I-70 interchange since the late 1960s, has now been completely razed by Joe Spiker Excavating and Construction, Greencastle. As crews work to remove the rubble and separate recycled materials from the location north of Beagle Club Road, all that remains standing is the motel marquee and a sign offering "free continental breakfast." Incidentally, if you bite on that invitation, you should expect service to be rather slow. Meanwhile, the Cloverdale Redevelopment Commission has reportedly been working with a client intending to build a new hotel and restaurant on the 6.5-acre site.

  • That hotel had been an eyesore for years. Sad to see an icon torn down, but that's what happens when you don't take care of a property.

  • I have many fond memories of the Touring Car restaurant that was in Holiday Inn many years ago. Too bad the place fell into disrepair.

  • Now if we could get something done about the mess on the northwest side of the 70/231, its terrible.

  • Made a mistake, bad mistake,I meant the northeast side of the I7o/231 exit.

The northwest looks better than it ever did as long as I can remember..

  • THAT IS GREAT NEWS.....THAT PLACE HAS BEEN SO RUN DOWN FOR WAY TOO LONG. IT'S A SHAME; I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS REALLY NICE. NOW, IF THEY COULD JUST TEAR DOWN THE OLD RESTAURANT ON THE CORNER OF 231 AND 40 ACROSS FROM THE SHELL STATION. THAT WOULD BE A REALLY GOOD LOCATION FOR ANOTHER RESTAURANT SINCE TORR'S IS GONE.

  • There will never be another place like Torr's again. It was THE place to go to for excellent steaks and GREAT service. It was my 2nd home.
