County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3:40 p.m. Friday, Christopher Michael Farrell, 19, Poland, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and probation violation.

At 7:37 p.m. Kara Dawn Brown, 36, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

* At 12:06 a.m. Saturday, John Richard Penola, 20, Bloomington, was charged with battery and for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

* At 2:25 a.m. Sunday, Jan Victor VanHorn, 52, Belleville, Ill., was held at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

At 3:04 a.m. David Alan Carrell, 33, Russellville, was booked in for operating while intoxicated.

At 3:05 a.m. Andrew Joseph Whitlatch, 41, Bainbridge, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

At 3:40 a.m. Patricia Leanne Junker, 21, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for operating while intoxicated and public intoxication.

* At 12:01 a.m. Monday, James Franklin Day Sr., 22, Cloverdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

At 2 p.m. Stephen Carl Snodgrass, 32, Brazil, was held at the jail for probation violation.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

At 11:45 p.m. Monday, Cade R. Gibson, 25, Bainbridge, was stopped on East Washington Street by Sgt. Charles Inman for having an expired Illinois license plate (expired in October).

Gibson was discovered to be in possession of a handgun without a license, Inman reported, and was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 12:13 a.m. Tuesday.

Four recent traffic citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 10:12 p.m. Sunday, William R. Olson, 35, Spencer, was ticketed on Bloomington Street by Officer Eric Vaughan for having an expired registration plate (August).

-- At 9:07 p.m. Sunday, Logan Watkins, 19, Greencastle, was cited on State Road 240 by Officer Vaughan for an expired license plate (November).

-- At 5:47 p.m. Saturday, Dustin Tippin, 37, Greencastle, was cited at College Avenue and Franklin Street by Officer Kyle Lee for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

-- At 10:30 p.m. Feb. 21, Daman Glaze, 21, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Matt Huffman at Indianapolis and Round Barn roads for operating without financial responsibility (no insurance).

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* At 4:23 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was called to an alarm at Humbert Hall at DePauw University, 208 E. Olive St., but was disregarded at 4:37 a.m.

At 1:20 p.m. firefighters were called back to Humbert Hall. Their investigation revealed the problem was due to burnt popcorn. They returned to station at 1:26 p.m.

At 3:18 p.m. personnel investigated an alarm at 303 S. Locust St., finding no problem. They cleared the scene at 3:38 p.m.

At 5:15 p.m. crews investigated an alarm at 415 Anderson St. The alarm was due to cooking, but no fire was found. They returned to station at 5:42 p.m.

At 7:15 p.m. GFD performed a lift assist at 3005 W. CR 100 South, clearing the scene at 7:27 p.m.

At 8:18 p.m. firefighters investigated an alarm at 602 S. College Ave. There was smoke in the elevator maintenance room of the Julian Science Center. Personnel shut down the elevator motor and found no fire. They returned to station at 9:18 p.m.

* At 12:34 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to an alarm at Autumn Glen, 98 N. 10th St., but was disregarded at 12:36 p.m.

At 5:15 p.m. firefighters investigated an alarm due to cooking at 107 W. Hanna St. No problem was found, and personnel reset the alarm, returning to station at 5:29 p.m.

At 6:07 p.m. crews responded to an alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave. The activation was due to cooking, but not further problem was located. They cleared the scene at 6:21 p.m.

* At 11:39 a.m. on Tuesday, personnel investigated an alarm due to cooking at 107 W. Hanna St. No problem was found, and crews returned to station at 11:48 a.m.
