Sectional semifinal matchups set

Though neither local team that was in action on Tuesday came away with a win, the area sectionals are heating up.

North Putnam (8-12), which received a first-round bye in Frankfort's sectional 25, will face Lebanon on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Tigers (16-5) beat North Montgomery (5-16) 57-32 on Tuesday.

Two other sectionals are hosted at local high schools, Greencastle and South Putnam.

The Tiger Cubs (3-18) lost to Edgewood (13-8), and the Mustangs will now face West Vigo (10-11) in the sectional 28 semifinal at Greencastle on Friday.

Also on Tuesday, Brown County cruised to a 55-42 win over South Vermillion.

The Eagles (6-15) were led in scoring by junior Luke Hulls, who scored 21 points. South Vermillion (4-18) senior Kaden Lawson had 15 points in the losing effort.

At South Putnam, the Cadets' win over Cloverdale sets up a matchup with South Putnam (11-9) on Friday.

The hosts received a first-round bye and will welcome West Central Conference rival Cascade (7-14) onto their homecourt at 6 p.m.

On the other side of the bracket Speedway (17-4) outlasted the Monrovia Bulldogs (9-13) to win 72-59.

The Sparkplugs are now set to face Covenant Christian (5-15) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
