North Putnam celebrates national breakfast week
BAINBRIDGE -- North Putnam Schools will be celebrating National Breakfast Week March 4-7. Food Services Director Robin Smith has come up with several ways to get kids to come enjoy the first meal of the day.
"Each child participating will get a star and a prize for each day that they participate in." Smith stated.
All North Putnam schools will be participating in the program. Smith has put together a fun and diverse menu for children to enjoy during this week of celebration.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," Smith said, "With ISTEP this week we hope to see more kids eating breakfast."
Smith's goal is to have at least 100 kids eating breakfast every day at the all four schools in the corporation. She hopes to see more kids eating breakfast because of the ISTEP, so that they have the energy to do well on their test.
Smith is also looking toward the future to develop food programs to help children identify nutritious and healthy food habits. Smith and Superintendent Dan Noel are also looking to bring in the program Healthy Vending to the school system. The program would help to provide students with healthy food options, other then the usual candy found in most vending machines.
For now though Smith is focusing on next week's celebration of breakfast and hopes she doesn't run out of prizes for students.
