County Jail

One person was booked into the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

At 4 p.m. Tyler Lynn Gobert, 19, listed as homeless, was arrested on two counts of probation violation.

City Police

An 18-year-old Clov-erdale woman is being charged with theft following a Thursday afternoon incident at the Greencastle Walmart store, City Police reported.

Michelle Lynn Foreman was lodged in the Putnam County Jail at 3:25 p.m. Thursday after Officer Kyle Lee was called to the East Side business to investigate the alleged theft at 2:57 p.m.

Foreman is alleged to have taken $59.91 worth of merchandise, including Nyquil, hair dye, eye liner, teeth-whitening strips and Megawatt lipstick.

Officer Lee's report indicated the suspect removed the hair dye and Nyquil from their packaging and was observed stuffing the items into her purse.

Two speeding citations were issued recently by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 10:52 p.m. Thursday, Alexandra Miller, 19, Clay City, was cited by Capt. Chris Jones for 45 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

-- At 2:04 p.m. Wednesday, Brandon Lewis, 21, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Darrel Bunten for 38 mph in a 20-mph school zone on East Washington Street near Greencastle High School.

Sheriff's Department

* At 6:12 p.m. on Wednesday a rear-end accident in slowed traffic took place on U.S. 36 in eastern Putnam County.

Ashley M. Rowe, 24, West Terre Haute, was westbound in a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu when several cars in front of her slowed or stopped due to a vehicle turning south onto County Road 725 East.

Matthew A. Willard, 23, Bainbridge, was also westbound in a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. He told Deputy Philip Troyer he took his eyes off the road and did not see the line of slowed traffic.

Rowe said as she started to accelerate, she was hit in the rear end by Willard's car.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 10:32 a.m. on Thursday, Larraine M. Smith, 55, Danville, was westbound on State Road 240, nearing County Road 525 East in a 2005 BMW X5.

She told Sgt. Jon Chadd she drifted off the north side of the road and was unable to correct before hitting a concrete culvert and embankment.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. Col. Tom Helmer and Lt. Donnie Pettit also assisted at the scene.

* At 12:50 p.m. Steven Odell, 38, Brazil, was turning northbound onto U.S. 231 from U.S. 40 in a 2001 Ford F250. As he started northbound, Odell rear-ended the 1994 Ford Mustang driven by Zachary Layne, 19, Brazil.

Layne was waiting to turn left into the Marathon station at the corner of the two highways. Odell told Lt. Pettit he could not see Layne's vehicle due to a semi tractor stopped in the southbound lane.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

At 4:06 p.m. Thursday, the Greencastle Fire Department was dispatched to a traffic accident with injury at the South Jackson Street railroad crossing just north of Phoenix Closures. Firefighters provided extrication and manpower. They returned to station at 4:45 p.m.
