County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1 a.m. Saturday, Bradley Jason McPherson, 38, Bloomington, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

At 3:10 a.m. Melissa Ann Monreal, 40, Crawfordsville, was housed at the jail for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 3:23 a.m. Eric Lee Blue, 39, Cloverdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

At 4:25 a.m. Kendall Lee Faust, 23, Greencastle, was held at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

* At 12:55 a.m. on Monday, Kevin Walpole, 34, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

At 10:45 a.m. Erick Knight, 32, Cloverdale, was charged with contempt of court.

At 4:15 p.m. Jayne Nicole Zorman, 42, Indianapolis, was held at the jail for public intoxication.

* At 2 a.m. Tuesday, Ryan Douglas Mann, 31, Cloverdale, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of marijuana.

City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 9 p.m. Saturday, Jennifer Marie Burns, 20, Waveland, was arrested and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a theft charge for allegedly attempting to steal a variety of children's items at the Greencastle Walmart store.

Sgt. Charles Inman's report indicated Burns placed diapers, children's wipes and articles of children's clothing into a large purse in an attempt to steal them.

Total value of the items was listed at $77.72.

* At 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Dustin Martin Tippin, 37, Greencastle, was arrested on a Vigo County warrant for failure to appear in court.

While Sgt. Inman was serving the warrant on Tippin at 50 Frazier St., he found him to be in possession of methamphetamine and also arrested Tippin for alleged possession of paraphernalia.

* At 7:25 p.m. Monday, Officer Darrel Bunten arrested Jacob Earl Handlon, 22, Fillmore, and Brittaney Danielle Head, 21, Brazil, both on charges of theft and possession of paraphernalia.

Handlon was also charged with possession of syringes. Both suspects were lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

The theft charge involves Handlon and Head allegedly taking a handgun from a Greencastle resident's home on Feb. 25.

One minor three-vehicle accident was investigated recently by GPD officers.

At 4:13 p.m. Friday, the mishap occurred on Indianapolis Road, 200 feet east of Percy Julian Drive. Justin Powoll, 21, Marshall, was reportedly eastbound, driving a 1999 Pontiac Montana as he approached stopped traffic on Indianapolis Road.

The brakes on Powoll's vehicle reportedly failed, causing it to strike the rear of a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, driven by Mary Smiley, 27, Greencastle, and pushing it into the rear of a 1990 BMW, driven by Marvin A. Shoultes II, 70, Greencastle.

Officer Jeff Modlin, who was assisted at the scene by Officer Albert Epple, estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Department

* At 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, Evan Huber, 18, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231, attempting to turn east onto Crosswind Drive in a 2003 Ford F150. Charles Huber, 28, Poland, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching the intersection in a 1999 Ford Expedition.

Evan Huber told Lt. Donnie Pettit he did not see the other vehicle approaching before he attempted to turn across traffic.

Charles Huber said he braked and veered to the right, but could not avoid the collision, striking the pickup just behind the passenger door.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 8:13 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, Alan W. Brody, 27, Lebanon, was traveling on County Road 1000 North in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado.

As he approached a curve, he lost control and left the road, overturning the truck.

Brody was treated by PMH ambulance service for back pain.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:40 a.m. on Monday, Wendy Pierce, 44, Lizton, was eastbound on County Road 450 North just west of County Road 375 West in a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier.

She ran off the road for unknown reasons, traveling over a drainage structure, causing undercarriage damage.

Pettit estimated damages at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 7:23 p.m. Monday, Debra Summers, 59, Spencer, was eastbound on Logan Street in Cloverdale, driving a 2001 Buick Enclave.

She looked down for something in her vehicle and drifted off the south side of the street, hitting a utility pole.

Sgt. Jon Chadd estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* At 12:22 p.m. on Friday, GFD investigated an alarm at 1216 Bloomington St., returning to station at 12:41 p.m.

At 7:06 p.m. crews were called to an alarm at 49 E. Ridgeland Rd., but were disregarded at 7:09 p.m.

* At 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, firefighters were called to assist Fillmore with a structure fire at 533 S. Main St., Fillmore.

No one was home at the time of what was likely an electrical fire.

The blaze heavily damaged the kitchen, an upstairs bedroom and roof of the house. GFD returned to station at 2:19 p.m.
