Turning laundry into loads of cash is PTO goal for detergent sale for new GMS sign

The Greencastle Middle School PTO is selling five-gallon pails of detergent and/or fabric softener to raise money for a new sign for the school.

"Our old sign is located on the corner of the building, low to the ground and is difficult to see unless you are right next to it in the parking lot," PTO President Diane Ummel said.

The PTO has been setting aside money the last two years to go toward this project, and Ummel's goal is to raise the remaining funds through this sale.

"My hope is to get the sign on order before the end of the school year, and have it installed by the start of school in August," Ummel added.

The five-gallon pails come with a pump, and are the equivalent of 350 loads.

Cost per pail is $45, which is a huge cost savings over purchasing smaller bottles at the store. The products are formulated like Tide (T) or Gain (G), however they are not Proctor and Gamble products. P&G does not do fundraising or sell its products as a fundraiser at a discounted or bulk rate.

Organizers said the products are quality concentrated liquid detergents with the similar scents, fabric refreshers and stain-lifting ingredients.

Detergent can be ordered in Original Scent (T), Lavender Scent (T), With Bleach (T) or FREE (T) no dye or scent, as well as Original Scent (G) or Sunshine Scent (G). Fabric softener is available in Lavender, Clean Breeze or Original Scent.

All are available in HE (High Efficiency), but you must specify HE when ordering.

Pam Carrington came up with the idea to sell the detergent, and is spearheading the GMS sale.

"What better way to raise money for our school than by selling something that every family uses daily," she said. "Most of us want to help out, but it just isn't always in the budget, and this is a win-win for both the school and the buyer."

To purchase a pail or two, checks can be made out to GMS PTO, and are needed by March 21 to place your order. Orders can be dropped off at the GMS Office or at Dave's Heating and Cooling, 124 N. Jackson St., Greencastle.
