Construction prompts parking changes for dancing dress rehearsal

Monday, April 1, 2013

The Putnam County Youth Development Commission (PCYDC) would like to extend an invitation to the Putnam County community to attend the fifth annual Dancing with the Putnam County Stars Open Dress Rehearsal, scheduled for Thursday, April 4 at the DePauw University Indoor Tennis and Track Center.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. event.

There is no cost to attend, but the PCYDC asks that everyone attending bring canned food or non-perishable items to donate. All donations will be shared with area food pantries.

Due to current construction at DePauw University, the south entrance and parking lot of the facility will not be available to guests.

Instead, attendees will have the option of parking in the Peeler parking lot at the corner of Jackson and Hanna streets or the Olin Parking Lot located on South Indiana Street, or any other off-street parking not reserved for DePauw University students.

There is also limited parking at the DePauw Service Center located at the corner of Jackson and Hill streets.

Guests must now enter at the north door of the tennis and track center, located on Hill Street. Guests may be dropped off at the north door, but no parking will be permitted within the gates of the facility.

For the safety of guests, law enforcement officers will be located at the intersection of Jackson and Hill streets to monitor traffic before and after the event.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we can assure you the event is worth attending," PCYDC Director Linda Merkel said. "Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you on Thursday, April 4. Don't forget your non-perishable food donations."

PCYDC can be reached at 653-9342.
