Singer-songwriter McMillin returns to campus April 9-11

Singer-songwriter David McMillin, a 2006 DePauw University graduate, will return to his alma mater April 9-11 as a guest of the Performing Arts Series.

Currently a member of the band Fort Frances, McMillin's DePauw visit will include a solo performance and songwriting workshop, which are both open to the public and presented free of admission charge.

The workshop is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 in Kerr Theatre, located within the Green Center for the Performing Arts. Pre-registration is requested by emailing Ron Dye, coordinator of the Performing Arts Series, at rdye@depauw.edu.

On Wednesday, April 10, McMillin will present a live performance in Theta Garden (the outdoor courtyard in the middle of the Green Center. It is set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be moved indoors to Thompson Recital Hall in the event of inclement weather.

In 2005, McMillin was an English writing major enrolled in Professor Debby Geis' Literature and the Beats course. A songwriter since his high school years in Columbus, McMillin wowed his class one day by writing and performing original music to a Lawrence Ferlinghetti poem.

McMillin's visit to campus will include a stop in that same class to talk with DPU students.

As a solo artist, McMillin toured with Grant Lee Buffalo, Shelby Lynne, the Goo Goo Dolls, Sister Hazel and Marc Cohn. He was named a 2008 Reader's Choice Award winner for best folk, country or Americana act in the Chicago Reader.

His band, Fort Frances, performed last month at SXSW (the South by Southwest music event).
