Josephine Emily Brown, 96, of North Vernon, passed away at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at her residence.

She was born May 3, 1916 in Cloverdale, the daughter of John O and Vada Jordan Haddan.

She attended Belle Union School.

She married Arthur M. Brown on March 25, 1939 in Greencastle. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1984.

Mrs. Brown was a beautician and had worked in the cafeteria at North Vernon Junior High School.

She was a member of Vernon Baptist Church, Muscatatuck Moderns Extension Homemakers Club, Weed and Water Club and 4H Club.

She was an avid bowler, bowling both local and state tournaments. She bowled on the former Regal Rugs team.

She enjoyed spending time and with her family and dog, reading, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald Joseph Brown and Michael Arthur Brown, both of North Vernon, and Johnny Clyde (Elizabeth) Brown of Hopkinsville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Brown and Jason Brown both of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Sarah Jo Damron-Brown of Bradford, Vt.; and a great-grandchild, Julian Brown of Hopkinsville, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, Cleo F. Smith, Geneva Jones and Leona Dodson.

Services will be conducted at noon Wednesday, April 10 at Vernon (Ind.) Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Friends may call at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
