HARMONY -- Two young people, including a 20-year-old woman who worked in Greencastle, were killed early Saturday in a one-car accident south of Harmony in eastern Clay County.

Alexis J. Holbert-Darkis, 20, who was employed at International Automotive Components (IAC) plant in Greencastle, and Darrell R. Moore, 18, both of Brazil, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Clay County Coroner's Office. (An obituary for Holbert-Darkis appears on Page 2A).

The driver, Kelsey D. Reid, 19, of Carbon, was transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil for treatment following the accident. Authorities said Reid tested negative for drugs or alcohol.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department reported the accident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. Saturday, south of 9598 N. CR 300 East.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a neighbor assisting the driver of the car and found the two passenger victims nearby in a small ditch.

Holbert-Darkis and Moore were ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigated indicates the vehicle was southbound as the roadway began to curve. Reid failed to negotiate the curve and the vehicle went off the roadway, sideswiping one tree before striking another on the passenger side.

The vehicle then flipped and landed on its roof.

The driver reportedly told deputies she was driving "a little too fast."

Autopsies for Holbert-Darkis and Moore were scheduled for Monday at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute.
