South Putnam gets pair of wins against Cascade

CLAYTON -- The South Putnam baseball team picked up its second-straight West Central Conference win on Tuesday, beating Cascade 15-6.

Senior Nick Scott threw a complete game for the Clovers, striking out six and allowing three earned runs.

"Tonight was an all-around team effort," SPHS coach Zach Love said. "All the starters had at least one hit."

Freshman leadoff hitter Grady McHugh had two hits, including a double, and scored three runs.

Scott, sophomore Jake Carmichael, freshman Joe Waters, junior Tyler Long and senior Aaron Parker had two hits each.

Senior Justin Bumgardner had a double, three walks, two RBI and scored three times.

The Eagles up their first win of the season on Monday, defeating the Cadets 8-6.

Senior JD Briones came on in relief and threw 6.1 innings, striking out 10.

Wyatt Nees had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

Bumgardner, Parker and McHugh each scored three runs.

SPHS fell behind by four runs after the first inning, then clawed back into the game late. The Eagles plated four in the fifth to tie the game at 5-all, then added three more in the bottom of the sixth.

The Eagles (1-4, 1-2) will play again Friday at Martinsville.
